Did you know that Devils Tower was declared our first national monument by Theodore Roosevelt? It was established in September 24, 1906. Theodore Roosevelt was our president when he established it. Devils Tower is a natural formation that has many different legends.

Devils Tower is a popular place to see in Wyoming. In fact this place is a part of Yosemite National Park (“Kliff”). For instance it is a huge tower that is 1267 feet above the ground. Devils tower is above the Belle Fourche River and for many Native Americans is a sacred site of worship. A lot of people think that Devils Tower was an old volcano but it isn’t its actually not even hallow (“Frequently”)!

In 1956 it was the 50th anniversary of the United States’ national monument. Lots of people like to climb the rock. For example it has been allowed since the 1880s! Most of the history of it is all of the legends that go with it. Almost all of the Native Americans that live there have a different legend. There are many of them!

Devils Tower became famous by mostly the legend of the seven little girls and the bear (“Mattinson”). Also another famous one is how the rock grew taller and taller and the bear made scratches all over it. ‘It became famous when Richard Dreyfuss began having visions of it with its flat sides and ridged sides” (“Devils”). There was a mine that no one else has found, that this family got killed by the Apaches after they had found gold in it at the base of Devils Tower.
To sum it up Devils Tower is a great place to see in Wyoming. It is a natural formation that is amazing. With so much history and so many legends overall it is beautiful. This sacred worship site for Native Americans is very important to this nation.
